Every stop needs one, and most are still handwritten. A single missing log in a state inspection runs $5,000 to $25,000, plus the risk to an applicator certification. Fear-driven purchases close faster than efficiency-driven ones because this one is genuinely frightening.
Paper in the field
Techs lose up to 15% of daily productivity to handwriting and collating. A manual ticket costs $12 to $15 in admin labour against $2 to $3 for a digital one. Across 15 stops a day, that difference is a salary.
Bait stations and commercial IPM
Commercial food accounts need monthly IPM documentation — station maps, corrective actions, chemical records — for AIB and SQF inspections. Dozens of numbered devices per site, inspected on schedule. That is asset tracking, and a spreadsheet is not asset tracking.
Route density is the margin
Windshield time between stops is the difference between a profitable route and a busy one. You cannot improve density you cannot see, and most operators cannot see it because the location data lives nowhere.
PestPac ships no native GPS
This is the actual gap. Mid-sized and larger operators run on PestPac, it does compliance well, and it still cannot answer "where are my techs right now". That is a hole beside an established system, not a reason to replace it.

I am not going to tell you I can replace PestPac or FieldRoutes on compliance. Those products have a twenty-year head start and it would not be true. The two openings I can defend are the GPS gap alongside PestPac, and operators who have outgrown GorillaDesk but will not stomach an enterprise rollout. If you are happy on FieldRoutes and it fits, stay there.

Do I have to leave PestPac?
No, and in most cases you should not. The common build is a GPS and field-capture layer that runs alongside it and fills the gap it leaves. Replacing a working compliance system is expensive and rarely the actual problem.
How small is too small?
Under about five technicians the owner is usually still the system, and there is not enough pain to justify custom software. Between five and fifty is where this makes sense. Above fifty you likely need an enterprise platform and an ops manager, which is a different kind of project.
What does it cost?
A focused build for one workflow runs $3,500 to $7,500. A full platform with admin, technician and customer surfaces starts around $9,000. If you have an existing app that stalled, a rescue starts at $1,500 and is scoped from a paid code review.
